Cultured marble products are generally coated in the mold with a clear or colored gel coat. The outer layer provides the ultimate strength to the bonded matrix. It also makes the final product water proof, durable & resistant to chipping. Depending on the finishing process used, the gel coat also provides the shiny surface that adds so much luster to the final product.
Because cultured marble is cast in molds, the installed product has minimal seams. When installed using mildew resistant 100% silicone caulk, it becomes virtually leak proof. Tubs are cast in one solid piece. Vanity tops typically have the bowl & back splash cast as an integral part of the vanity, avoiding seams. Cultured marble shower panels are typically only caulked where the panels meet in the corners & floor. Shower floors are cast in one solid piece. A fiberglass flange is then applied for additional integrity against leaks.
Cultured marble products are very versatile and find applications in residential construction, multi family housing as well as commercial buildings. Over the years, raw materials and manufacturing techniques have improved dramatically and will allow you to enjoy your cultured marble products with their original luster for many years to come.
All cultured marble & granite products have a gel coat finish that provides a non-porous, stain resistant surface. Proper care will ensure lasting beauty, elegance and function. Normal cleaning requires soap or a mild detergent. Many bathroom cleaners work well. Be sure to read the label to ensure the product is safe to use.
Do not use scouring or abrasive cleaners. Repeated use will dull the gel coat finish. Click here for more information on cleaning...
